Biographical Sketch
Susanna Natti, daughter of author Lee Kingman, was born on October 19, 1948 in
Gloucester, Massachusetts. At the age of eight she decided that she would be an
illustrator and often copied pictures from art books. She later took lessons from Virginia
Lee Burton's husband, George Demetrios, who also lived on Cape Ann. She attended
Smith College, the Montserrat School of Visual Art, and the Rhode Island School of
Design. She illustrated more than fifty of David Adler's "Cam Jansen Mysteries" series
and won the Christopher Award in 1979 for Frederick's Aligator, her second
illustrated book.

Scope and Content
The collection contains 29 color separations, two dummies, illustrations, and
correspondence for Frederick's Alligator (1979), the story of a boy who hatches
and cares for a baby alligator. There are also folded and gathered sheets and
preliminary sketches and proofs of the dust jacket. There is also a sketch for a family
Christmas card. The materials are arranged alphabetically and in the probable order in
which they were created .
