Scope
and Content:
The collection contains typescripts, illustrations, and sketches for ten titles. There are also illustrations for magazines covers, an unpublished story, and an unidentified title. The materials are arranged alphabetically by title. Within each title the materials are arranged in the probable order in which they were created.
Most of the books in the collection are mystery books for young adults. A mysterious singing in the garden of the house next door raises the suspicion of a young girl in A Haunting Air (1975). In The Other Face (1975), a girl unlocks a secret about her past when she finds an old china knick-knack. There are typescripts and illustrations for both of these titles. Caroline solves a mystery concerning a stranger and a recurring dream in A Pocket of Silence (1977). There are sketches, illustrations, and typescripts for this title.
There are also three picture books in the collection, How Jan Klaasen Cured the King (1952), Tales of Andersen and Grimm (1968), and Timi (1961). Timi is the story of a shy griffin that gets left behind and is taken in by the village baker. There are illustrations and illustration proofs for these titles.
The collection also contains illustrations for an unpublished story, "The Ballad of the Green Sow." There are illustration proofs for magazine covers including, After Tea Tales , Tales for Little People , and A.B.C. Story Book . There are also twelve unidentified nursery rhyme illustrations.
