Science Café on the Coast Explores the Role of a Death Doula
News item published on: 2026-10-01 14:56:10Science Café on the Coast will host a presentation by Toni Maurice-Milburn on the role of an end-of-life, or death, doula on October 27 at 6 p.m. on the first floor of Gulf Coast Library.
Death doulas provide nonmedical, holistic support to individuals and families before, during and after the dying process, addressing emotional, spiritual and practical needs. Maurice-Milburn will discuss what a death doula does, the importance of being fully present at the end of life, and ways to honor dignity, autonomy and cultural traditions.
The presentation will explore how support continues beyond death and how viewing death as a natural part of life can help create a peaceful, meaningful end-of-life experience.
Science Café on the Coast offers people with minimal background in science an opportunity to meet and discuss topics in a relaxed social setting.
