Processing Boxed Books
Uncataloged boxed books
1. Processing boxed books in batches of 10 is recommended.
2.
Print a title label for each book. Include the title, author, place of
publication, publisher, and year of publication. Include this
information only if it can be found easily in the book.
3. Print a fragile label for each book.
4.
Affix the title label (above) and fragile label (below) to the front of
the box. For phase boxes, leave enough room in the upper left corner
for a call number sticker.
5. Affix a barcode to the lower left of the front of the box and cover with a barcode cover.
6. RECORD IN STATISTICS!!
7. Send the books to the Special Collections cataloger.
Cataloged boxed books

4. Affix the title label (above) and fragile label (below) to the front of the box.

For phase boxes, affix a call number sticker in the upper left corner
of the front of the box and cover with a barcode cover.
6. For clamshell boxes, affix a call number sticker to the lower spine of the box and cover with a barcode cover.
7.
Place the acid-free slip with the barcode inside the box and affix a
“Barcode inside!” sticker to the lower left of the front of the box.
8. RECORD IN STATISTICS!!
9. Place the books on the appropriate truck to return to McCain Library.
