Pamphlet Binding

1. Remove staples from the score with a microspatula.

2. Make any needed repairs to the cover and text block.

3. Place short pieces of P90 tape over the middle of the signature and 2 staple holes above and below it.

4. Center the score within the pambinder and push the spine of the score against the spine of the pambinder.

5. Push the awl through each piece of P90 tape.

6. Insert a teasing needle into each of the 3 holes to keep the score in place.

7. Measure the thread at nearly 3 times the distance between the top and bottom holes.

8. Cut the thread and thread the needle.

9. Sew the pamphlet into the pambinder in the following manner: Start in the inside of the middle hole, go in the backside of the bottom hole, go in the inside of the top hole, and finish by going in the backside of the middle hole. Be careful not to pull the thread through the piece of thread already running over the middle hole.

10. Place each of the 2 thread ends on opposite sides of the thread running down the middle of the score.

11. Pull the 2 thread ends straight up to tighten them.

12. Tie down the 2 thread ends over the thread running down the middle of the score, knotting them twice.

13. Trim the 2 thread ends about ½” from the knot.

Pamphlet Binding with Pockets

1. Choose a pocket about ½” wider than the width of the part(s). Trim a slightly larger pocket to the proper size if necessary.

2. Insert a piece of scrap paper into the pocket at a slant to avoid gluing together the edges of the pocket.

3. Apply glue to the side of the pocket, gluing from the middle outward and paying special attention to the pocket edges. You will get glue on your hands!

4. After applying the glue, discard the scrap paper.

5. Place the pocket onto the inside back cover of the pamphlet binder about ¼” from the bottom and the fore edge of the board.

6. Press down with a Teflon bone folder, especially on the edges of the pocket.

7. Insert sheets of wax paper into the pocket at a slant, just as you did with the scrap paper earlier.

8. Place weights over the entire pocket and let dry overnight. Be sure to keep the pamphlet with its binder.
