Hinge Tightening
1. Open the front cover
and gently push the board back and down away from the spine to expose
the open space between the board and the pastedown.
2. Immerse a knitting needle of appropriate size into the glue, using a paper towel to coat the knitting needle evenly.
3.
Carefully and gently push the knitting needle through the gap between
the board and the pastedown, starting at the bottom and coming out at
the top.
4. Use the knitting needle to coat the exposed portions of the board and pastedown.
5.
Remove the needle and press the pastedown onto the board. Close the
front cover and press down on it with a bone folder to help the
pastedown set.
6. Open the cover vertically and push it down toward the spine to help the hinge set.
7. Clean off any excess glue on the spine or board.
8. Repeat the procedure on the back cover.
9. When finished, place sheets of wax paper between the front and back boards and the fly leaves.
10.
Place the book on a small piece of plywood, slide appropriately-sized
clean knitting needles into the creases, and place weights on top of
the spine.
11. Let the glue dry overnight.
