Holdings Symbols

University Libraries uses three holdings codes, two of them OCLC library holding codes and one a local holding code. The Hattiesburg campus (MUS) library holding code is MUSH and is used for all Hattiesburg campus library materials except government documents. The Gulf Coast campus (MLA) library holding code is MLAC and is used for all Gulf Coast campus library materials except government documents. Holding codes MUSH and MLAC are linked to the call number index in the local catalog.

Government documents at both campuses use the local holding code MDOC in field 049 of the bibliographic record. Code MDOC is linked to the Sudoc call number index in the local catalog.

Obsolete Collection Codes

Multiple codes for each campus were at one time used in the 049 field to designate collections. Records in the local catalog continue to show these codes. For current practice, see above.
