Civil Rights in Mississippi Thesaurus
The Civil Rights in Mississippi Thesaurus (CRT) is a product of the
Civil Rights in Mississippi Digital Archive, and will continue with the
Mississippi Digital Library Program, two projects funded by the
Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
Created to provide a standardized list of names and terms for use in
metadata records of items related to the civil rights movement in
Mississippi, the majority of terms included in the thesaurus are
Library of Congress Subject Headings or Name Authority Records.
Those that are not LC are standardized for local use only and noted
as such. Many new terms have been submitted to the Library of Congress
through NACO and SACO as a result of the Civil Rights in Mississippi
Thesaurus, improving the representation of the African Americans and
important civil rights figures in the national bibliographic vocabulary.
