Classifying and Cuttering Audio-Visual Series
Classifying audio-visual series
Monographic series may be classified together as a collection or separately,
by individual part. Determine if a subject analysis of each part on separate
records best serves user needs. If the subject content of component parts varies
significantly, prefer classification by individual title. Cataloging the whole
series with one MARC record with adequate subject headings is preferred.
Audio-visual series which are classified separately are cuttered by the main
entry.
Cuttering audio-visual series that are classed together
Option 1
Audio-visual series that are clearly numbered on the physical item or title
screen are cuttered by the first letter of the series title.
Example:
| Series: |

Option 2
Audio-visual series that have no numeration are cuttered by the first letter
of the series with successive cuttering. The first two numbers are determined
by using the LC cutter table. The successive number is determined by an obvious
ordering of items in the series or by the last number of the item/catalog number
in the 028 field of the MARC record.
