University Archives
The mission of the University Archives is to record the history of The University of Southern Mississippi by collecting,
organizing, and preserving documents, photographs, and artifacts generated by faculty, staff, academic departments,
administrative offices, students, and organizations on the multiple campuses of the University.
The Archives aims to promote awareness, understanding, and appreciation of The University of Southeran Mississippi’s heritage
and contributions to the surrounding communities.
The University Archives is located in the McCain Library and Archives building, named in honor of Dr. William D. McCain,
former president of the University and director of the state Department of Archives and History.
The staff of the USM Archives will be glad to work with University personnel to determine which departmental
records have permanent historical, administrative, and legal value and which therefore should be transferred to
University Archives in a timely manner.
