Access Services

Circulation - information about service eligibility, loan periods, renewals, overdue fines, lost or damaged items, and related information

Course Reserves - faculty may place electronic or physical items on reserve to make them easily available to all students in a course

Interlibrary Loan - use the ILLiad system to request delivery of articles and loans of books and other materials from other libraries

Mississippi University Library Borrowing Program - request a MUL borrowing card to gain on-site borrowing privileges at any of seven other university library systems in Mississippi

Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program - request a Reciprocal Faculty borrowing card to gain on-site borrowing privileges at any of over 150 academic institutions

Remote or Off-Campus Access - access the Libraries' electronic resources from anywhere


Reference Services

Ask-a-Librarian - receive reference assistance via e-mail

Consultations - schedule a research consultation with a librarian

Library Instruction - faculty may schedule a library instruction session for a class

RefWorks - web-based research management system


Technology Services

iTech Help Desk - Cook Library Room 103, on the east side of the lobby

Find available computers in Cook Library or Gulf Coast Library - available computers are indicated by a gray computer icon


Bibliographic and Collection Development Services

Bibliographic Services Department - the acquisitions, cataloging, and serials units are where much of the "behind-the-scenes" work occurs

Purchase Recommendation - recommend purchase of a book, video, journal, or other item

Faculty/Department Purchase Request - faculty may use this form to request purchase of library resources using departmental allocations

Order Inquiry - ask about a book, journal, or other resource listed in the library catalog as on order or in process

Catalog Error Report - report a problem with a record in the library catalog


Other Services

Research Carrels - rent a research carrel for a semester

Room Reservations - meeting rooms are available in Cook Library, Gulf Coast Library, or McCain Library

Library Forms - link to all University Libraries forms from one convenient location


Speaking and Writing Centers

As part of the University's Quality Enhancement Plan, the Southern Miss Speaking Center and Writing Center were created to to improve oral and written communication skills across the university. The centers are located within the libraries on both the Hattiesburg and Gulf Coast campuses.
