A preacher... |
![]() |
Will
Campbell was ordained at the age of seventeen at the East Fork Baptist Church
in Amite County, Mississippi. After attending Louisiana College, Campbell
enlisted
in the army and served in the South Pacific during WWII. While overseas, Will read the Howard Fast novel, Freedom Road and developed a new perspective on race, religion and his role as a Christian leader. Other experiences in the military, such as dealing with a variety of cultures and being called a "nigger lover" for bunking with black soldiers on the troop train, altered Campbell's view of his career as a preacher. |
