Information literacy/research skills are essential skills for lifelong learners. University Libraries strives to help you develop these skills in students through instructional sessions tailored to meet the specific research project or assignment you've outlined. Students learn these skills more effectively when they are fully aware of the requirements of the project or assignment before they come to a library instruction session.

Please select one or more sessions below, and note our recommended length for each. Click on the links for additional information and possible learning objectives. The course instructor is required to be present and sessions should be scheduled at least one week in advance.

Advanced research
 (recommended for graduate classes)

Advanced research is an intensive instructional session to help students learn the mechanics of research necessary for literature reviews for theses, dissertations or other graduate projects. Allow a minimum of 90-120 minutes. The session includes:
  • Database vs. Internet searching (mechanics of searching)
  • Searching for dissertations
  • Searching for tests and measurements
  • Searching for statistical data
  • Using subject specific databases
  • Using document delivery
  • Plagiarism/Turnitin overview (if requested)

Custom designed research sessions

The following can be in addition to any other selection:
