Biographical Sketch
Su Zan Noguchi was born on March 8, 1916 in Iliff, Colorado. While growing up, she and her four sisters spent many hours learning about and experiencing nature, while their father explained nature's phenomena. Due to her interest in nature, she took many biology electives while earning a degree in fine arts from the University of Colorado in 1938. While at school she created scientific drawings for biology professors and after graduation took a position at the American Museum of Natural History.

She married Dr. Ralph Swain, an entomologist. Together they published their first book, The Insect Guide (1948), with Su Zan Noguchi Swain providing the illustrations. After her husband's death in 1953, she continued producing books about nature, sometimes with Dorothy Shuttlesworth as the author.
