Biographical Sketch
May Sarton was born on May 3, 1912 in Wondelgem, Belgium. She attended grade
school in Cambridge, Massachusetts and the Institut Belge de Culture Francaise in
Brussels from 1924-1925. Instead of going to college, Ms. Sarton opted to join Eva
Le Gallienne's Civic Repertory Theater Company in New York City as an apprentice
in the hopes of becoming an actress. In 1934, she founded the Associated Actor's
Theater in Hartford, Connecticut.

Scope and Content
The collection contains typescripts and proofs for A Walk Through the Woods
(1976), a poem about walking through the woods in springtime. The materials
are arranged alphabetically by title. Within each title the materials are arranged in
the probable order in which they were created.
