Scope and Content
The collection contains typescripts, galleys, blues, and proofs for 4 titles. The materials are arranged alphabetically by title. Within each title the materials are arranged in the probable order in which they were created. Three of the titles in the collection deal with issues about handicapped teenagers. Only Love (1979) is about a handicapped girl named Frannie who falls in love, but is frightened by the secret she may have to share. The story is based on the patients Sallis met at a local hospital. The book was published again in 1981 as Sweet Frannie. There are typescripts, blues, and 4 sets of proofs for this title. Secret Places of the Stairs (1984) is also based on a true story about a girl named Cass who finds out that her parents have been hiding the fact that she has a terminally ill and handicapped younger sister. There are typescripts, blues and three sets of proofs for this title. In An Open Mind (1978), a boy tries to come to terms with his father's remarriage with the help of a handicapped boy. There is a typescript and two galleys for this title.

A Time for Everything (1979) is about a girl who grows up in an English village during World War II. Sallis' own fields were occupied by troops during the war and she tried to relive these feelings in the book. The book was republished in 1981 under her pseudonym Susan Meadmore as Thunder in the Hills. There are typescripts, blues and three sets of proofs for this title.
