A native of New York, Charles Lilly is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York. He began illustrating books for young readers in the 1970s. Several of Lilly's most famous illustrations portray black children growing up.He has received numerous awards of merit from the Society of Illustrators, Art Directors Club, and Publication Designers.
The collection contains materials pertaining to the dust jacket and frontispiece illustration for The Peppermint Pig, written by Nina Bawden in 1975.
The Nina Bawden Papers (DG0068) contain the final typescript, galleys, dummy, and page proofs for The Peppermint Pig.
