A native of New York, Charles Lilly is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York. He began illustrating books for young readers in the 1970s. Several of Lilly's most famous illustrations portray black children growing up.He has received numerous awards of merit from the Society of Illustrators, Art Directors Club, and Publication Designers.
