Biographical Sketch
Gioia Fiammenghi was born on September 29, 1929 in New York City to a family with a long history of artistic accomplishment. She received a scholarship from Parsons School of Design and graduated in 1950. She worked briefly as a fashion model and an assistant art director before becoming a free-lance artist and illustrator in 1951. She married Guido Caputo in 1959 and had three children. She has lived much of her adult life in Europe, illustrating books for American and European publishers.

The collection contains material for thirty-one books. The materials are arranged alphabetically by title. Within each title the materials are arranged in the probable order in which they were created. Her illustrations are usually detailed and drawn in black ink. She frequently illustrated humorous adventure stories.
