Abstract: | The Judy Delton Papers contain a typescript for My Mom Hates Me in January (1977). Delton, whose writing often dealt with the emotional problems and questions of childhood while retaining a lighthearted tone, was best known for her Kitty, Angel, and Pee Wee Scouts series. |
Judy Delton was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on May 6, 1931, to Alfred and Alice (Walsdorf) Jaschke. She was raised in a strictly Catholic environment and often fretted over the subjects of sin and guilt. Delton attended the School of Association Arts in 1950 and the College of St. Catherine in 1954-57, from which she earned a teacher's certification. She taught in the parochial elementary schools of St. Paul between 1957 and 1964 and married Jeff J. Delton, a school psychologist, in 1958.
Delton began writing at age 39 without any training or instruction and published her first book, Two Good Friends, in 1974. Her writing drew heavily on her Catholic upbringing and often dealt with the emotional problems and questions of childhood while retaining a lighthearted tone. She was best known for her Kitty, Angel, and Pee Wee Scouts series. Delton died in St. Paul, Minnesota, on December 31, 2001.
