Biographical Sketch:

Shaaron Cosner was born to Roy F. and Louise Bigelow on February 10, 1940 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her childhood was spent in various places around the world because her father was in the United State Air Force. She married Ron Cosner, a teacher, in 1962, and they have two children.

Cosner holds bachelor's (1965) and master's (1978) degrees in English from Arizona State University. It was during a class on children's literature that Cosner's professor approached her about having one of her papers published. That was the first moment that she realized she could get paid to do what she loves, writing.

During her career, Cosner worked as an instructor at Arizona State University and a teacher at Corona del Sol High School. Besides being a writer of science-oriented topics, Cosner has also contributed over fifty articles to periodicals such as Arizona, Arizona Highways, and Americana. Among her many published books are: American Windmills: Harnessers of Energy (1977), American Cowgirls: Yesterday and Today (1978), and Masks Around the World, and How to Make Them (1979).

Arizona State University houses the bulk of the Cosner Papers in their Special Collections.
