Abstract: Michael Berenstain, son of the creators of the Berenstain Bears, is an author and illustrator of history, fantasy, science, and other fiction books for children. The Michael Berenstain Papers contain layout sheets for two historical books published in 1977 and 1978.

Biographical Note

Michael Berenstain was born on December 21, 1951 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Stan(ley) and Jan(ice) Berenstain, creators of the Berenstain Bears book series. He attended the Philadelphia College of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He began his career as artist and illustrator in 1975 with a series of historical books published by McKay. By the 1980s Berenstain began to emphasize fantasy and the supernatural in his work, creating a group of mythical characters called dwarks. He more recently has collaborated with his parents on illustrating books in the Berenstain Bears series and an additional children’s series about dinosaurs.

The Michael Berenstain Papers contain layout sheets for two historical books published in 1977 and 1978. The material is organized into a single series for books and is arranged alphabetically by title. The material for each title is arranged chronologically in order of creation when known.
