On
June 29, 1999, in conjunction with the annual conference of
the American Library Association in New Orleans, 18 librarians
from throughout the United States visited the de Grummond Collection.
They were given a behind-the-scenes tour by curator Dee Jones,
who also presented a talk on The Treasures of the de Grummond
Collection exhibit.
After
a delightful luncheon funded by University President Horace
Fleming, the group was treated to a talk by children's author
and poet Charles Ghigna. Also known as "Father Goose," Ghigna
is the author of Mice Are Nice (Random House, 1999),
See the Yak Yak (Random House, 1999); and The Animal
Trunk, his newest release from Abrams. See the Yak Yak
has been chosen as a main selection for the Book of the Month
Club. His books and poems have been featured on ABC's Good
Morning America and two of his earlier books, Tickle Day
(Hyperion 1994)and Riddle Rhymes (Hyperion 1995) have
received glowing reviews in the New York Times, Kirkus
Reviews, School Library Journal, the Washington
Post, and Publishers Weekly. More information on
Father
Goose can be obtained at his website.
