Martin
Pope, President of Ezra Jack Keats Foundation,
visits the statue of Peter and Willie in the Imagination
Playground
A bronze
sculpture of "Peter," the beloved character in Ezra Jack Keats'
classic children's books, was recently unveiled in Prospect
Park's new and unique Imagination Playground. The sculpture
depicts Peter reading a book while gently reaching down to
pet the nose of his trusty dog, Willie. Designed and created
by Brooklyn sculptor Otto Neals, the statue was donated to
the Prospect Park Alliance by the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation.
The Keats Foundation, dedicated to promoting literacy programs
for children, was inspired to commission the statue so that
Prospect Park and the children who use this imaginative new
facility would have a space dedicated to storytelling and
reading.
