Form of Material: Scrap Books, publications and miscellaneous files pertaining to the political career of former Fourth District Mississippi Congressman, William Arthur Winstead, who served in the United States Congress from 1943 - 1964. A native of Neshoba County and a 1931 graduate of USM, Mr. Winstead's political career began with his election as County Superintendent of Education in 1935. From 1968 - 1971, he served as Commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Public Welfare. Mr. Winstead died March 14, 1995 and is interred at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Philadelphia, Mississippi. |
