Form of Material: A bound account ledger used to record accounts and receipts of tenants from the farming operation of Hiram Lafayette "Bud" Van Norman, near Liberty , Mississippi in the 1930s. Specific years noted in the ledger are 1934 - 1937. Some entries in the front portion of the volume document only the month and day of the transaction. Typical entries record purchases of food, clothing, and farming supplies, as well as cash advances to the various tenants. Several loose items found within the ledger (receipts, a newspaper clipping, and a cash register tape) have been removed and placed in separate folders. Accession Number: AM04-33 Provenance: H. L. Dates: ca. 1926 - 1964 Form of Material: Seven ledgers (1926 - 1949); seven folders of loose items found in the ledgers; seven year books (1944 - 1964); and six folders of loose items found in the year books. Six of the ledgers record information regarding tenant farming operations on the H. L. Van Norman property near Liberty, Mississippi. The seventh ledger records the buying, breeding, and maintenance of dogs. The year books primarily provide daily accounts of weather conditions, but also contain documentation of farming activities such as planting, harvesting, and crop maintenance. Loose items from both the ledgers and the year books consist of receipts, invoices, financial documents, correspondence, photographs, and an occasional advertisement.
