Form of Material: Materials documenting the activities of the Lindsey Wagon Company of Laurel, Mississippi. The company was founded in Laurel in 1900 by John Lindsey, designer of the patented Lindsey Eight Wheel Wagon. Lindsey Wagons were designed for the transportation of felled timber through marshy areas and other difficult terrain and were sold throughout the Western Hemisphere. The last Lindsey wagon was produced in 1964. The Company was the oldest manufacturing company in Laurel and the largest manufacturer in a primarily agrarian state. The last remaining building and its contents are owned by the City of Laurel. The collection includes twenty-seven journals and ledgers, office files, maps, and architectural drawings. There are also office files of the Fuller Lumber Company and the Gorman Lumber Company. The Lindsey Family was related to the Fuller Family by marriage.
