Business ledger containing accounts for the Baltimore, Maryland, northern Virginia, and southeastern Pennsylvania area. The ledger was made by Samuel Taylor Book-Binder and Stationer of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The ledger was apparently later used as a practice book by someone learning Pitman Shorthand. The style of shorthand has been identified by the Pitman Publishing Company as very early, possibly shortly after the introduction of Pitman Shorthand into the United States in 1837.
