Collection includes a photocopy and a transcript of two manuscripts entitled “Travels in America” written by David “Pears” Smith Hiddle. There is a short history of Mr. Hiddle and his manuscript with the transcription.

Mr. Hiddle left his native Scotland on the steamer “United States” and arrived in New York on December 28, 1860. His departure date is believed to be in 1862, since he returned to Scotland to be married in August 1863.

His travels after he left New York included Savannah, Montgomery, Selma, Mobile, New Orleans, Ocean Springs and Moss Point.
