Form of Material:
News clippings, newsletters, photographs, broadsides, pamphlets, correspondence,
and other materials that document the life and career of radio and television
personality, Woodie Assaf (alternately spelled "Woody"). Mr.
Assaf, a native of McComb, Mississippi, began his career in radio at a
McComb station in 1937. After serving in the military during World War
II, he was employed by a station in Vicksburg. From there, he went to
radio station WJDX in Jackson. In 1953, he began his career in television
at WLBT-TV, Jackson. During his career, he has served as announcer, disc
jockey, sportscaster, and weatherman, and is best known as WLBT's weatherman.
Throughout his life,
Mr. Assaf has been deeply involved in community activities and charitable
organizations such as the Easter Seal Society. He has also been in great
demand as a speaker and master of ceremonies for various events.
