Science Café on the Coast will present “Changing Perceptions: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Can Change Your Mind” on Tuesday, February 11 at 6 p.m. at Orange Grove Public Library.

Leslie Fitzmorris will discuss cognitive behavioral therapy and how it can challenge and change unhelpful behaviors and help develop personal coping strategies. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a psycho-social intervention that works by changing a person’s attitudes and behaviors by focusing on thoughts, images, beliefs and attitudes and how these processes relate to the way a person behaves as a way of dealing with emotional problems.

Fitzmorris is a licensed clinical social worker and registered play therapist with over 20 years of experience. She works with individuals of all ages who are experiencing difficult life events, transitions, depression, anxiety, loss, and issues of self-worth.

Science Café offers those with minimal background in science the opportunity to meet and discuss issues in a relaxed social setting and is a collaboration between The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Libraries, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Harrison County Library System, Long Beach Public Library, and Hancock County Library System.

Science Café is free and open to the public. Follow Science Café on the Coast on Facebook for upcoming events and live-streaming by visiting Facebook.com/sciencecafeonthecoast.
