Graphic Design Students Exhibit Edgar Allan Poe-inspired Art

University Libraries at the University of Southern Mississippi will feature Edgar Allan Poe-inspired Illustrations created by Southern Miss graphic design students. The exhibit will open on October 28 with a reception from 5 - 7 p.m. in the Cook Library Learning Commons Gallery.

The juried exhibit, “Exquisite Dreams: Edgar Allan Poe Illustrated,” will include art that represents 14 of Poe’s writings. Under the guidance of graphic design professor Carolyn Norton, the illustration students will create works employing a wide variety of media.

This exhibit, which provides a visual element to the works of Poe, will be on display until November 30, and is one of many activities this fall to celebrate the works of Edgar Allan Poe.

In May, University Libraries received a Big Read grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to fund programming promoting Poe and his works to the local community. This initiative will support innovative reading programs designed to encourage people to read, discuss, and celebrate Poe’s writings. The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment of the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. Big Read activities are a result of collaboration between University Libraries, the College of Arts & Letters, and the Library of Hattiesburg, Petal and Forrest County. This exhibit is free and open to the public.
