The artists featured for the month of June all grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and express its beauty in their art.
Sisters, Mary Beth Barnett and Patti Sneed, paint vivid images of the plant and animals and scenes of beaches and bayous of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Having discovered watercolors later in life, Barnett has taken various classes both locally and online. Although she does not consider herself an artist for show, she loves watercolor and sketching as a hobby.  Sneed served as organist/choir director at St Mark’s Episcopal Church for 36 years.  “I now have time to sit and paint, sometimes alone, and often with my sister Mary Beth.”

Xavier grew up and still resides in Long Beach, Mississippi. Her interest in art actually began in elementary school. Having started with art classes at Gulf Park College for Women, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She loves to express art in many ways, from canvas to ceramics, egg shell decorations, sand sculptures, pottery, murals and glass art.

The exhibit will be in place through July 15, 2014, during regular library hours. Selected pieces will be available for sale.

A reception is planned for Tuesday, June 17, 2014, 4-6 p.m. where guests may meet the artists and view their work.
