Southern Miss Gulf Coast to host free African-American Genealogy Workshop
LONG BEACH, Miss.- The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus will host a free African-American Genealogy workshop Saturday, April 5 from 10 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. in room 204 of the Gulf Coast Library, located on the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.
The workshop, taught by Ann Anderson and Joyce Griffith of the Ocean Springs Genealogical Society, will provide instruction on how to conduct basic genealogical research as well as researching free people of color and slave ancestors. The event is part of the traveling exhibition Changing America: The Emancipation Proclamation, 1863 and the March on Washington, 1963.
The Changing America exhibit is presented by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture and the National Museum of American History, in collaboration with the American Library Association Public Programs Office.
