News item published on: 2012-11-19 11:03:31

The next Science Café at Cook Library will be Monday, November 26, at 6 p.m. in the Cook Library Art Gallery (LIB 105A), located next to Starbucks. The topic will be Hormones and Behavior, with Dr. Jodie M. Jawor, assistant professor in the Dept. of Biological Sciences at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Think you have conscious control of yourself? Think again. Dr. Jawor will lead a discussion about what is known about the impact of hormones on human behavior and mate choice, premenstrual syndrome, seasonal affective disorder and performance enhancers.

A Science Café’s casual meeting place, plain language, and inclusive conversation create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for people whose primary background may not be science. Each meeting is organized around a scientific topic, with a presenter (usually a scientist) giving a brief overview and showing a short video to kick off the discussion. Science Cafés are free and open to the public.
