To support and promote Dr. B’s Book Club, the new summer book club started by Southern Miss Dr. Rodney Bennett, University Libraries has collaborated with University Communications to provide recommended readings for students who are participating. The goal of Dr. B’s Book Club is to encourage students to stay engaged and read books over the summer that will contribute to student success and success in their chosen fields.

University Libraries has created an resource guide to give students suggestions for summer reading that will help enrich their college experience. The guide highlights books on student success, faculty publications and Mississippi writers, among others. The online guide also contains links to book reviews, award winning books, free e-books, and other helpful information to guide students in their summer reading selections. Selected materials have also been placed on reserve at Cook Library for a 14-day check-out period to accommodate student access.

Throughout the summer semester, University Libraries will highlight "Dean’s Pick of the Week." Each week one of the college deans will be featured, along with their recommendation for student reading. These updates will be posted to the Dr. B’s Book Club Facebook page, so be sure to “Like” the page so you can keep up with the dean’s recommendations and join in on the conversation.
