Popular Reading Collection: Staff RecommendationsFebruary Selections ![]() A Thousand Splendid Suns by Kahled Hosseini PS3608 .O832 T46 2007 Kaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns expertly blends Afghanistan’s continued political turmoil with the heart-wrenching account of two women who try to hold on to their dreams in the face of personal tragedy. It is a captivating story that hooks you from the first page. -Laura Capell, Digitization Librarian ![]() Positively 4th Street: the Lives and Times of Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Mimi Baez Farina, and Richard Farina by David Hajdu ML400 .H335 2001 This biography describes how Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Mimi Baez Farina, and Richard Farina's lives and music were interrelated. The book focuses more on the lives of Baez and the Farinas than it does Dylan, but the story of Richard Farina is extremely fascinating and after reading this I became a fan of his music. Something that was surprising about this story is that the elusive author, Thomas Pynchon, was a great friend of Richard Farina and actually agreed to be interviewed extensively (by fax) for this book. Definitely a must read for fans of the 60s folk music movement. -Jennifer Brannock, Special Collections Librarian ![]() A photographer's life, 1990-2005 by Annie Leibovitz TR680 .L377 2006 This was a stunning reflection of a specific period in the famous photographer’s life. The collection contains photographs of celebrities, musicians, her partner Susan Sontag (during illness and death), her family (children and aging parents), and places she has visited and lived. All of the photos are remarkable and unpretentious. A truly awesome and passionate reflection of the wonder of everyday life through one person’s lens. -Katie Windham, Collections Specialist, de Grummond Children's Literature Collection **All books are found in the Popular Reading Collection located on the first floor of Cook Library.
