Author and civil rights figure, James Meredith, will give a book talk and sign copies of his latest publication, A Mission from God: A Memoir and Challenge for America, at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. Hosted by the Gulf Coast Libraries, the book talk and signing will be held Thursday, March 7, at 4 p.m. on the third floor of the library.

Meredith, who also served in the U.S. Air Force and later as a political adviser, was the first black student admitted to the University of Mississippi, where he graduated with his degree in political science in 1963.

A Mission from God looks back at Meredith’s courageous and action-packed life. Within the book, he challenges America to address the most critical issue of our day: how to educate and uplift the millions of black and white Americans who remain locked in the chains of poverty by improving our public education system.

Books will be available for purchase at the event. For more information, contact the Southern Miss Gulf Coast Library at 228.214.3450.
