University Libraries to Host a Book Signing by Civil Rights ActivistThe University of Southern Mississippi Libraries are pleased to present William G. McAtee, a retired Presbyterian minister, for a discussion about the experiences that led to his recent work, Transformed: A White Mississippi Pastor's Journey into Civil Rights and Beyond published by University Press of Mississippi. In the late 1950s and 1960s, he served two pastorates in Mississippi, Amory and Columbia. During this turbulent time, McAtee joined a group of local ministers, two white and four black, that began opening access to public institutions and facilities for all citizens as required by the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The presentation and signing of the book will be in Cook Library, Room 105, the Art Gallery, on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
