About Gulf Coast Library
The Gulf Coast Library, located on the USM Long Beach campus, is part of the University Libraries serving the Gulf Park campus and teaching sites (Cedar Point and Gulf Coast Reseach Lab). The library is located in the heart of the Gulf Park campus at 730 East Beach Blvd. (off Hwy. 90) in Long Beach, Mississippi. This state-of-the-art library provides students with a wealth of library resources and media collections. The 54,236 square foot facility is the only comprehensive university library on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Faculty, staff, and students have access to other Southern Miss Libraries collections through a shuttle service between campuses for the delivery of books and other printed materials.
History
The Gulf Coast library was originally dedicated in 1975, in honor of Dr. Richard Garfield Cox (1881-1967), founder and first president of Gulf Park College. USM acquired the former two-year liberal arts college for women in 1972. The library building was formerly an art studio, built in 1923. A new library building was erected in 2002 to replace the original. (More, click here)
