The Gunter Library has bookmarked on-line databases, library catalogs, and other information resources on eight computers available for use by faculty, staff, and students. The following list provides a brief description of the scope of each Bookmark to help in selecting the ones most useful for your research needs. Begin by clicking twice on Netscape Communicator on the computer desktop screen. Select the Bookmarks icon in the upper left-hand corner. A list of "personal bookmarks" is displayed. Use this guide to help select the database most relevant to your search. These databases also may be searched from campus computers and home computers by using the URLs provided.
- AGRICOLA

AGRICOLA is a comprehensive abstracting and indexing service produced by the National Agricultural Library and cooperating institutions. It includes over 3.3 million citations in the subject areas of agricultural economics, agricultural engineering, animal science, aquaculture, chemistry, energy, entomology, food science, forestry, geography, life sciences, natural resources, plant diseases, insect pests and their control, and veterinary science. At the Bookmarks, click on USM Libraries, then click on Information Online. At the Databases by Title drop down menu select AGRICOLA from the alphabetic list. Searches are for the years 1970 to the present. Database is updated monthly. This database is accessible from any computer at: http://www.nal.usda.gov/ag98/
- ASFA: Biological Sciences and Living Resources

A comprehensive abstracting service, ASFA is compiled from about 5,000 serial publications, books, reports, conference proceedings, translations, and limited distribution literature. This database contains information on biological and ecological aspects of marine, brackish, and freshwater environments, including fisheries and living resources, aquaculture, aquatic communities, and legal and socioeconomic studies related to aquatic organisms. At the Bookmarks, click on USM Libraries, then click on Information On-Line. At the Databases by Title drop down menu select ASFA and follow the directions on the screen. Searches cover the current year and one back year.

Biological Abstracts is a comprehensive abstracting service and index to biological literature. Nearly 6,000 international journals are monitored, representing virtually every life science discipline including agriculture, biochemistry, biotechnology, botany, ecology, environment, microbiology, pharmacology and public health. Entries typically include an abstract. At the Bookmarks, click on USM Libraries, then click on Information On-line At the Databases by Title drop down menu select Biological Abstracts. Searches cover 1992-current year.

The EBSCOhost databases are being brought to the citizens of Mississippi by the MAGNOLIA project which was funded by the Mississippi Legislature. These databases offer indexing, abstracting, and full text of scholarly and popular journals. Academic Search Elite includes abstracts and indexing for over 3,100 journals in the sciences, social sciences, humanities, education and more. Academic Search Elite offers full text for over 1,000 journals including 380 journals dating back to 1990. Total coverage includes over 3 million articles. At the Bookmarks, select USM Libraries, then click Information Online. Select EBSCOhost from the drop down menu and follow the directions on the screen.

The GeoRef database provides access to the geoscience literature of the world. GeoRef is the most comprehensive database [1785-present] in the geosciences and continues to grow by more than 70,000 references a year. The database contains over 2.2 million references to geoscience journal articles, books, maps, conference papers, reports and theses. Subjects covered are geology worldwide, including information on energy sources, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, ground water pollution, dinosaurs, landslides, and erosion, as well as the history of the earth, the structure of the earth, the study of ore deposits, and geostatistics. At the Bookmarks, click on USM Libraries, then click Information Online. At the Databases by Title drop down menu select GeoRef. Follow the search instructions provided.

Searching Infotriev is free but with a charge for ordering articles. Subject areas include science, technology, medicine, and other scholarly disciplines. The database contains over 20 million citations and 10 million abstracts from over 3,000 journals and covers the years 1966 to the present. Simple searches and advanced queries are allowed. At the Bookmarks, click on Infotrieve. This database is accessible from any computer.

The ingenta is a searchable database of more than 11 million citations from over 20,000 journals published since fall 1988. Coverage is multidisciplinary. At the Bookmarks, select ingenta. Search by keyword, author, or journal title. This database is accessible from any computer.
- ISI Web of Science

ISI's Web of Science provides access to Science Citation Index with coverage from 1997 to the present. Search by author, cited author, subject, and source journal. Cited articles from covered journals written by other researchers. Results can be downloaded into ISI bibliographic software programs. At Favorites, click on USM Libraries Information Online. At the Databases by Title drop down menu select ISI Web of Science. Follow the search instructions provided.

JSTOR provides full-text articles from an assortment of scholarly journals. Disciplines include core journals in general science, ecology, and statistics. Coverage in the selected disciplines is comprehensive. At the Bookmarks, click on Welcome to JSTOR. Then select Search. Articles can be searched by keywords, topics, titles, authors and dates. This database is unique because complete backfiles of the journals have been digitized, starting with the very first issues, with over 4 million pages available.

PubMed provides access to a database of bibliographic information drawn primarily from MEDLINE and PREMEDLINE. PubMed is the National Library of Medicine's premier bibliographic database covering the fields of medicine, dentistry, nursing, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the preclinical sciences. PubMed contains bibliographic citations and author abstracts from approximately 3,900 current biomedical journals with about 9 million records dating back to 1966. At the Bookmarks, select Welcome to PubMed. Search by keyword, author or journal title. This database is accessible from any computer.

An online catalog of the holdings of the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Libraries, NOAA Central Library provides access to bibliographic information to elusive government documents and much more. Some of the entries include the internet addresses for publications available on NOAA websites. At the Bookmarks, select NOAA Central Library and click on NOAA LIBRARY CATALOG. Search by word, phrase, author, title or browse. This database is accessible from any computer.
- Sea Grant Abstracts

The National Sea Grant Library serves as an archive of more than 72,000 Sea Grant documents and publications. Database includes articles, conference proceedings, technical reports, books, and less formal publications in the subject areas of marine education, fisheries management, aquaculture, seafood science, environmental studies, diving technology, etc. Entries typically include an abstract or full text (PDF). At the Bookmarks, select NATIONAL SEA GRANT DEPOSITORY and click on Search the Database. For simple searches, use a word or phrase. This database is accessible from any computer.
- Setting up your browser for remote access to USM Libraries' databases An Ocean account and password are required to access USM Library databases remotely. Students, faculty, and staff can obtain an Ocean account and password by contacting OTR. Gunter Library does not have the capability of providing Ocean accounts.
